Onimusha: Way of the Sword Collectibles
Last verified: Sep 4, 2026 · Release-day edition
Onimusha: Way of the Sword contains 274 collectible locations across Kyoto and its surrounding areas. This guide breaks the full set down by category — what each one does, what trophy it feeds, and how to track them — so a 100% run never turns into a blind sweep.

Collectible Overview
| Collectible | Count | Trophy / Achievement |
|---|---|---|
| Mysteries of Kyoto | 8 | Demystified |
| Chance Encounters | 18 | No Job Too Small |
| Lion Dogs | 36 | For the Love of Dog |
| Oni Armaments | 7 | Oni Armory |
| Hozuki Pouches | 9 | Medical Marvel |
| Charms | 15 | Charmed Life |
| Genma Notes | 23 | Genma-ologist |
| Power Stones (skill material) | 54 | Well-Rounded |
| Oni Stones (skill material) | 54 | Well-Rounded |
| Fine Silk Cloths (equipment material) | 25 | Dressed to Kill |
| Tamahagane (equipment material) | 25 | Dressed to Kill |
Everything above counts toward the 274 total, and everything is required for 100% completion. There is also a set of Basic & Special Skill upgrades and Equipment Enhancements tied to the same trophies, which cost the materials listed above rather than being pickup objects themselves.
Hold off on spending Oni Stones until you can unlock Oni Vision: Treasures, Oni Vision: Treasures 2, and Oni Vision: Search Range. Together these three Special Skills reveal collectibles and chests across the map — they are the single biggest time-saver for a 100% run.
When to Clean Up
Nothing in Way of the Sword is permanently missable. You can free-roam and find all collectibles up to the Point of No Return before the final mission, "The Clash at Rendaino." Keep a manual save from that point and you can return to clean up anything left, even after finishing the story (Continue in the main menu also places you back before the final mission).
During the story, grab what you find naturally; do the focused clean-up pass before the final mission using the category guides below. Two practical notes for the sweep:
- Citizens matter. Rescuing townspeople and merchants from Genma is its own collectible-adjacent system (Citizen Savior / Selfish Selflessness trophies) and rewards useful materials.
- New Game+ splits progress. Mysteries of Kyoto, Chance Encounters, clothing, sword and gauntlet enhancements and Red Souls do not carry into New Game+, while Genma Notes, Lion Dogs, Charms, Hozuki Pouches, skills and Awakened abilities do. If you are planning a Carnage run, do the non-carrying categories on the save you intend to keep.
Mysteries of Kyoto (8)
Mysteries of Kyoto are investigation-style collectibles — small observation cases tracked in the "Curious Cases" menu as Observations. They unlock once you complete the mission "What Lurks in the Shadows," after which they appear on the map with their starting locations marked. Completing all 8 earns the Demystified silver trophy. Because they are tracked as observations rather than pickups, read the on-screen clue at each site and follow the investigation to its end.
Chance Encounters (18)
Chance Encounters are side missions. Each one activates by speaking to someone at a mission marker marked with a Notebook icon on the map, and each becomes available after a specific story mission. They are short, character-driven jobs — archery trials, rescues, hidden treasure hunts — and completing all 18 earns the No Job Too Small silver trophy. Every encounter, its unlock condition and its reward is detailed in our Chance Encounters guide.
Lion Dogs (36)
Lion Dogs are scattered across Kyoto and a couple of other maps throughout the game. Rescuing each one grants a new sword skin, and reporting to Murasaki Shikibu once all are rescued unlocks a special weapon appearance. The full set earns the For the Love of Dog silver trophy. Lion Dogs are not available until the mission "What Lurks in the Shadows" is complete, and they do carry over into New Game+.
Oni Armaments (7)
The 7 Oni Armaments are the game's magical weapons — the Two Celestials, Oni Bow, Wind-Whipper, Earth-Shakers, Firebird Flute, Flashing Void and Still Water. Each is found in a fixed location or mission, and collecting all 7 earns the Oni Armory silver trophy. Our Oni Armaments guide lists every weapon and exactly where it appears.
Hozuki Pouches (9)
Hozuki Pouches expand Musashi's healing capacity. You start with one; finding the other 8 and upgrading them increases how many healing charges you can carry. Fully enhancing a single pouch earns Health Is Wealth, and maxing every pouch earns the Medical Marvel silver trophy. The first pouch upgrade opportunity comes from Okuni during the mission "Patching up the Pouch," when she sends Musashi to gather materials in a ruined temple.
Charms (15)
Charms are equippable trinkets that grant combat bonuses — healing effectiveness, reduced damage taken, increased attack power, faster gauge fill and more. Each is obtained by completing side content, and they can be enhanced once you finish "The Stage Is Set at Kiyomizu" by speaking with the shrine in the southeast corner of Emma's Hall. Maxing one charm earns A Real Charmer; maxing all 15 earns the Charmed Life silver trophy.
Genma Notes (23)
Genma Notes are lore collectibles recording the history of the Genma and their servants. They are the only collectible category not marked naturally on the map, which makes them the easiest to miss — run the Oni Vision: Treasures skill in every district and sweep each area methodically. Collecting all 23 earns the Genma-ologist bronze trophy, and they carry over into New Game+.
Upgrade Materials (54+54+25+25)
The final group is the upgrade economy. Power Stones and Oni Stones (54 of each) buy and enhance Basic and Special Skills; Fine Silk Cloths and Tamahagane (25 of each) enhance clothing, the sword and the gauntlet. Chests across Kyoto hold them, side content rewards them, and the Oni Vision skills make chest locations visible so none are skipped. Spending them wisely is what feeds the Well-Rounded and Dressed to Kill trophies — see our skills guide for the upgrade list.
